FAQs

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Yes, but with an asterisk.

Body hair is hormonally driven. And it is mostly a group of hormones called androgens (of which testosterone is just one) that is responsible for its growth.

Just how permanent and lasting laser hair removal is depends partly on who you are, and partly what’s going on in your body.

For cis women with lower androgen levels, laser hair removal is permanent and lasting. For cis women with genetically higher androgen levels, touch-ups every few years may be necessary.

For cis women with PCOS, certain thyroid conditions, or who are on medications that raise androgen levels, maintaining the results achieved in early sessions will probably require more frequent maintenance. As well, for many women, pregnancy often causes additional hair growth.

So, yes, while for almost all of our cis female clients we are able to get substantial reduction, the effort needed to maintain that reduction will be different for each of us. During your Initial Consultation we will talk all about how these factors may apply to you, and the results you can expect.

For trans women on HRT (a T-blocker or estrogen monotherapy), or post-orchiectomy or post-vaginoplasty, laser hair removal is 100% permanent and lasting. Because our androgen levels are essentially controlled via HRT or surgery, body hair will never regrow once it’s been zapped off. So, for the dolls, laser done once well, will never have to be done again.

For cis men, or trans men boosting their T levels, we will certainly get long-term reduction of 50-70%, but because of the higher testosterone levels in male bodies, this reduction may slowly fill in over time. For these clients, laser hair removal is more like a haircut: ongoing treatments, at some interval, will generally be necessary in order to hold results.
